IMAGINISM EXHIBITION THE OVER-SEAS LEAGUE - LONDON

Penny Smith's background tells us something about her paintings. Her use of vivid vibrant colours for example speaks of her childhood spent in India.

Penny's choosiness when it comes to materials is instructive - the canvases she uses are of natural linen. As well as oils, egg tempera and 22 carat gold are favored friends – the touch of the gold leaf in some of her painting lends a magical quality – and there are times when she also uses French, Indian and Japanese hand made papers which give her work another dimension.

Penny never makes preliminary drawings on the canvas preferring to paint directly building up fine layers of oil paint this can give a luminous quality to her work.

Penny has held exhibitions in Cornwall, Italy and London.
